According to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea are interested in mounting a £40million swoop for Tottenham right back Kyle Walker, and would offer to double his wages.

The Blues clinched the Premier League title in style with 1-0 and 4-3 wins over West Brom and Watford respectively, and can even win a domestic double with a win over Arsenal in the FA Cup final later this month.

However, in order to challenge for silverware again next season, manager Antonio Conte will need new signings, and right wing back appears to be an area that the Italian want strengthen this summer.

Victor Moses has adapted well to play the right wing back position in Conte’s 3-4-2-1 system, but The Mirror claim that Chelsea are looking to raid London rivals Tottenham in order to sign Kyle Walker.

The former Sheffield United youngster has become arguably the Premier League’s top right back, but his Tottenham future has been thrown into some doubt in recent weeks, despite him signing a new contract with Spurs back in September.

Walker has recently been left out of the Spurs side in favour of Kieran Trippier, and it’s now believed that the England international could seek a summer move, with Manchester City interested in his signature.

Chelsea are now allegedly joining the race as they weigh up a £40million move to land the 26-year-old, whilst the Blues would also offer to double Walker’s wages from £70,000-a-week at Spurs to £140,000 at Stamford Bridge.

That’s an intriguing offer for Walker, but whether Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy would be willing to sell a key player to a local rival remains to be seen. It was only last summer that The Mirror claimed that Levy wouldn’t sell any player to Chelsea due to poor relations between the two clubs, and with no signs of that relationship being strengthened, Chelsea may face an uphill battle in their attempts to land Walker.
