Antonio Conte’s Chelsea target A.C. Milan defender as they look to make additions before the close of the transfer window.
Chelsea have had a £30 million bid for AC Milan’s centre-back Alessio Romagnoli rejected, Sky Sports have reported.
It is believed the club are unwilling to sell the Italian under-21 international in the current transfer window and have snubbed Chelsea’s move for the player as they look to strengthen at the back.
Romagnoli, who was signed from Roma last summer for £21 million has now moved to the top of Antonio Conte’s wanted list as Chelsea look to be snubbed in their attempts to sign Kalidou Koulibaly, with the Napoli defender set to sign a new deal at the club as reported by The Sun.

Conte currently only has club captain John Terry and Gary Cahill in central defensive roles, and with Kurt Zouma ruled out of action until the end of the year, the need for central defenders is now paramount to Conte’s transfer plans, with the move for Romagnoli now taking on greater importance.

When asked about Zouma last month, as reported by The Daily Star, Conte said: “We know Zouma is recovering but he needs time. It’s important we don’t push him.”
But with the close of the transfer window fast approaching Chelsea may now need to step up their pursuit for Romagnoli and test the resolve of new Milan manager Vincenzo Montella if any business is to be done before the close of play on deadline day on with the San Siro club.
