Chelsea are planning to hold talks with Everton to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Ross Barkley.

According to reports from The Irish Mirror, Chelsea will try to hijack Tottenham’s move for Everton midfielder, Ross Barkley, as the Blues prepare to launch a formal bid.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Barkley, who will be out of action for two months with hamstring injury. The report claims that the potential deal has been dragging on, with Spurs looking at other targets.

This could open a window of opportunity for Chelsea, and the Blues are ready to make a move for the England international as they are keen to bolster their home grown talent before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, and discussions are likely to be held with Everton owner Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright.

The 23-year-old Everton homegrown attacking midfielder is in the final year of his contract, and has refused to agree to a new deal. Everton have bolstered their attacking department this summer, and are ready to let Barkley go.

Everton initially demanded £50 million, but could now get bids around half the price.

The Toffees are not in a strong position for negotiating considering Barkley’s contract situation, and they will have no other option other than agreeing with Chelsea’s demands. Unless, Spurs make a late move and spice things up.
