Crystal Palace and Everton failed to add another striker to their ranks last month.

Palace have lost Christian Benteke – a rumoured Everton target earlier this year – for around six weeks due to injury.
And it is claimed the Eagles are ready to dip into the free agent market in order to strengthen their threadbare front line.

Ex-England strikers Carlton Cole and Rickie Lambert are also said to be candidates to cover Benteke’s absence, although on recent form Diabate is undoubtedly the best of the bunch.
The Mali international scored 14 goals in 30 games last season, during spells with Metz and Osmanlispor – both of whom play in their respective countries’ top divisions. And at 29, he is at least four years younger than Cole, 33, and Lambert, 35.

Until now, Everton had not been formally credited with interest in Diabate, although the recent resurgence of Oumar Niasse – three goals in two substitute appearances – could convince them to leave Palace to it.
