Chelsea’s Charly Musonda has been strongly linked with a move to Celtic.

According to Foot Mercato, Chelsea winger Charly Musonda will now be leaving the club this summer amid links to Celtic – and is even set for a new contract.

Musonda, 20, joined Chelsea from Anderlecht in his native Belgium back in 2012, and he has been touted as one of the club’s top young talents ever since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

An attacking midfielder or winger, Musonda has starred for Chelsea at youth and reserve levels, and he spent two loan spells with Real Betis in 2016; the first of which was a real success, though the second wasn’t quite so successful.

After being sent back to Chelsea in January, Musonda failed to make a single appearance under Antonio Conte before the end of the campaign, and he’s still yet to make his first-team debut for the Blues.

That lack of first-team football has led to speculation surrounding Musonda’s future, with Celtic heavily linked with a move to sign him this summer.

The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that Celtic were hoping to tie up a major deal for Musonda, possibly edging towards the club’s record-transfer fee of £6million.

However, Foot Mercato claim to have spoken to a source close to Musonda, and they suggest that the Belgian talent won’t be leaving Chelsea this summer, and is even set to agree a new contract to commit his future to the Blues.

“Charly will stay at Chelsea,” said the source. “The club believes a lot in him, and this season Charly has only one thing in mind: accomplish one of his dreams, which is to play for the club that welcomed him and trained him since he was 15.”

“He is in negotiations with the club and there are some details to negotiate, but in principle Charly will sign a good contract with Chelsea in the weeks to come, a deal that will show how Chelsea believes in him. Charly will play for Chelsea next season, not all games of course, but he will have a chance and will be part of the group. He is determined to make his debut with the club, and he is confident that he will not leave Chelsea permanently or loan,” they added.

It remains to be seen whether that report and those quotes prove to be true, but even if Musonda does sign a new deal for Chelsea, Celtic could still pursue a loan deal, with Brendan Rodgers already showing how he can develop young talents for Premier League giants, having seen Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts thrive under him last season.
