According to the Sunderland Echo, Sunderland are set to sign Bradford City’s Charlie Wyke, with the striker on Wearside for a medical this afternoon.

The Black Cats have been busy adding new faces for new boss Jack Ross, with ten signings brought in ahead of the new League One season.

Jon McLaughlin, Tom Flanagan, Reece James, Alim Ozturk, Jack Baldwin, Glenn Loovens, Luke O’Nien, Dylan McGeouch, Chris Maguire and Jerome Sinclair have all joined Sunderland this summer, and number 11 appears to be on the way.

The Sunderland Echo report that Sunderland are set to sign Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke, with the player undergoing a medical this afternoon ahead of completing his move.

It’s claimed that the fee involved is £1million, though there are claims that the deal could be £500,000 up front and another £500,000 in add-ons should Wyke succeed at the Stadium of Light.

Wyke, 25, joined Bradford from Carlisle United in January 2017, and has starred for the Bantams, hitting 16 goals in all competitions last season to take his record for the club to 23 goals in 62 appearances.

A physical centre forward who will surely lead the line for Ross, Wyke was born in Middlesbrough and came up through the ranks with the Teessiders, meaning his move to Sunderland hands him a return to the North East.

As a proven League One striker, Sunderland fans will hope that he can score the goal to give the club an immediate return to the second tier this season.
