Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle United continue to battle over Steve Bruce.

According to The Telegraph, Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri demanded Newacstle United duo Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons return to the club over the weekend.

The Owls have been left infuriated after losing manager Steve Bruce to the Magpies so close to the start of the new Championship season.

Newcastle announced Bruce as their new boss whilst Wednesday felt the deal was still being negotiated, though Bruce allegedly told them days earlier that Newcastle had paid his release clause.

It’s becoming a bitter saga, and Chansiri was seemingly willing to drop his legal action if Newcastle allowed duo Lazaar and Aarons to return to Hillsborough on loan.

The pair spent the second half of last season on loan with Wednesday, and Chansiri also wanted more loan players at a later date whilst paying minimal wage contribution – which Newcastle unsurprisingly rejected.

Newcastle feel they have no legal case to answer, according to the report, but the situation regarding Lazaar and Aarons has become somewhat interesting.

That’s because they played under Bruce for the second half of last season, and having been outcasts under Rafael Benitez, they could end up with lifelines under Bruce.

Newcastle were right not to give up two assets when they feel they have done nothing wrong, so not giving them up isn’t necessarily a sign of them having brighter futures at St James’ Park.

Yet having been unexpectedly reunited with Bruce, the pair may feel that have a new shot at saving their Newcastle careers, which wouldn’t have come under Rafael Benitez.
