Report: Chancel Mbemba has completed move from Newcastle to Porto

Mbemba has been linked with a move from Newcastle to Porto for much of the summer window.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo have claimed that Liga NOS giants FC Porto have completed a move to sign Newcastle United centre-back Chancel Mbemba, after weeks of negotiations.

The Daily Mail claimed over the weekend that Newcastle were finally closing in on a move that would see 23-year-old Mbemba leave St. James’ Park to join Porto for £5.5million.

Now, reports from Portugal claim a move has gone through and is expected to be confirmed on Monday evening, and a medical has been completed by Mbemba and Porto.

Mbemba, a DR Congo international, fell down the pecking order under Rafa Benitez during the Toon’s promotion-winning campaign from the Championship and managed just nine Premier League appearances last term.

Newcastle have captain Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune and Ciaran Clark at centre-back, and they kept Mbemba stuck way down in fourth choice. Now, his Newcastle nightmare has seemingly ended.

The Mail claim goalkeeper Matz Sels is set to follow Mbemba out of the exit door, with the Belgian stopper closing in on a £4million move to French side Strasbourg.
