Rangers defender James Maxwell is attracting interest from Championship Ayr United as well as a club in Norway, according to a report, with the full-back set to head out on loan again this season.

Maxwell spent last term on loan with Queen of the South, and The Athletic report that several clubs are eyeing up a temporary deal for him this season.
The Scotland youth international is in the final year of his contract at Rangers and has previously attracted interest from the likes of Hibs, St. Mirren and Sheffield United.
His stint with the Doonhamers last season saw him impress for the Championship side and he was a surprising inclusion in yesterday’s B team win over Bo’ness United in the Lowland League.
The defender has caught the eye for the Gers youth sides in recent seasons but faces tough competition to force his way into the senior side at Ibrox.
Loan exit makes sense for Maxwell with Rangers chances limited this season
With Borna Barisic and Calvin Bassey ahead of him, it’s unlikely he’ll see any first-team action this season at Rangers so a loan move makes sense for Maxwell.
The former Falkirk youngster looks to have a big future ahead of him but really needs regular first-team football if he is going to fulfil his potential.
The prospect of a move to Norway is an intriguing one as it will offer something completely different for him and take Maxwell far further out of his comfort zone than heading along the road to someone like Ayr.

However, balancing the off-field development with his improvements on the pitch are key, leaving Rangers a tough decision to make over where they’d prefer him to go.
Challenging for promotion with Ayr would also be an excellent opportunity for Maxwell and it seems to be a case of waiting to see where he ends up.
Once a decision is made, hopefully there’s a new deal in it for the Rangers defender too as the Gers look to the future and life after Borna Barisic.
