According to the Daily Star, a number of Championship clubs snubbed the chance to sign Leeds United new boy Pierre-Michel Lasogga on loan from Hamburg this past summer.
The Whites may have lost key first-team players such as Robert Green, Kyle Bartley, Charlie Taylor, Liam Bridcutt and Chris Wood over the course of the summer, but their work in the transfer market has seen them thrive.
Victor Orta, Leeds United sporting director, oversaw a focus on targeting the European market, with German Felix Wiedwald, Spaniard Samu Saiz and Macedonian Ezgjan Alioski all making a big impact so far this term.

Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Millwall was Leeds’ first defeat of the season, but Thomas Christiansen’s men still sit top of the Championship table after a fine start to the campaign.
One of the most recent additions, striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, impressed on his debut with two goals against Burton Albion, and he has continued to impress as he looks to replace former top goalscorer Wood.
Now, the Daily Star report that Lasogga was actually offered to a host of Championship clubs, but they all snubbed the chance to sign him – and Leeds swooped in to snap him up on loan from Hamburg for the season, in what already looks to be an inspired move based on his early displays.
Lasogga, 25, has endured an up-and-down time with Hamburg since joining from Hertha Berlin in 2013, hitting 30 goals in 107 games for the Bundesliga side, before heading to Elland Road in August.
It’s now claimed that other Championship clubs had reservations about Lasogga’s lack of pace, and therefore chose not to make a move for him – but Leeds showed no such reluctance, offering him a chance to get his career back on track in West Yorkshire.
With exceptional power and aerial ability, what Lasogga may lack in speed, he more than makes up for with physical prowess as a classic target man, and Leeds will be hoping that the German makes those Championship clubs who turned him down feel very, very foolish.
