Callum Roberts might miss out on the chance to play a Premier League game with Newcastle United with clubs in England and Germany reportedly interested.
Newcastle United youngster Callum Roberts is keen on a move to Panathinaikos this summer despite having proposals from clubs in England and Germany, according to SDNA.
Born and bred in South Shields, Newcastle fans will have been hoping that the local lad would force his way into The Magpies’ first-team under Rafa Benitez but it seems that he has missed the boat now at the age of 22.
Roberts is out of contract this summer and it seems that his future now lies away from St James’ Park – though he is hardly short of offers.
SDNA claim that clubs in the Championship are lining up to sign the former England U20 international on a free while he also has plenty of enquiries from Germany.
Right now, however, a move to Greece looks more likely with Roberts increasingly keen on a move to the 20-time Super League champions, who last won the domestic title all the way back in 2010.
Panathinaikos watched the winger in action during a recent U23 clash with Reading and they were very impressed by a player who has 14 goals and eight assists at youth level this season.
Roberts has held talks with Panathinaikos’ sporting director Nikos Dabizas, who spent five years at Newcastle himself between 1998 and 2003.
