French outlet Homme Du Match claim Marseille president Pablo Longoria has picked up the phone and spoken to Tottenham to discuss a loan deal for Bryan Gil. The Spaniard is expected to leave again this summer.
Gil, 21, joined Tottenham last summer for a combined fee of £21.6million and Erik Lamela – joining the London club from Sevilla. But he struggled during the first half of 2021-22, failing to score a goal in 20 games.

Antonio Conte decided to send him back to Spain and he was excellent for Valencia. But this summer, Spurs want him to join a club that are in Champions League or Europa League competition for the 2022-23 campaign.
Marseille are certainly that, after Jorge Sampaoli guided his side to second in Ligue 1. They have qualified for the Champions League group stages. Longoria has spoken on the phone to Spurs about signing Gil on loan.

It would be a stunning move for Gil. The Spaniard would be joining a club that are in Champions League football, but it would also force Gil to grow up – taking him out of his comfort zone of both Spain, and England.
Gil needs to toughen up slightly and going to France would allow him to do that. But on the pitch, Gil has the ability to shine in Ligue 1 – and then light up the Champions League. He might not start regularly, but he will be involved.
It benefits all. Gil will toughen up and have the stage to show Spurs and Conte what he can do. Spurs will get a player back in 2023 who is ready to have an impact – and in the mean time, Marseille benefit from Gil’s potential.
