Celtic midfielder Scott Brown is reportedly wanted by Western Melbourne.

According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has turned down Western Melbourne’s opening offer.

It has been reported that the newly-formed A-League club could not come up with the salary for Brown despite making an initial two-year contract with the option of a third.

The former Scotland international midfielder was also reportedly offered a one-year contract extension by Celtic.

Brown, who is out of contract at the Glasgow giants in the summer of 2019, fears becoming a bit-part player at Celtic and is likely to make an announcement on his future at the end of the month, according to The Scottish Sun, which has also reported that Western Melbourne will now try to put together an improved bid.

Celtic stay or Australia adventure?

Brown is 33 years of age, and one can understand if Celtic are planning for life without the former Scotland international midfielder.

After all, the former Hibernian star cannot carry on forever, and the Hoops need to think of life after him.

A move to Australia does make sense for Brown if the A-League club are able to come up with the right figures.

Brown has been on the books of Celtic since the summer of 2007 when he joined from Hibernian for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4.4 million.
