Report: Celtic’s Scott Brown rejects £2m-a-year contract with Al-Wasl

Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has reportedly turned down one contract offer.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Scott Brown has rejected a £2 million-a-year contract with Al-Wasl as the midfielder continues to weigh up whether this summer is the right time to leave Celtic.

The Record reports that Brown is out of contract at Parkhead at the end of the season, and has plenty of options to consider – including signing a new deal with the Hoops.

But one place where Brown does not appear to be heading is Dubai, with the Record suggesting that he has rejected the most financially-lucrative offer on the table, which came from Al-Wasl. He is also said to not be interested in a move to Major League Soccer amid interest from Kansas City and Seattle Sounders.

According to the Record, that leaves Brown making a choice between staying at Celtic and joining new A-League side Western Melbourne, with his decision set to be made this week.

It would be a blow for Brendan Rodgers to lose the 33-year-old in the coming months. Although Callum McGregor has shown that he can fill his shoes on the pitch, his influence amongst the team will surely be sorely missed by the Bhoys if he does leave.

But with Brown clearly showing that the financial rewards are not the main motivating factor behind his decision, there may be plenty of Celtic supporters expecting the Hoops hero to extend his spell with the club beyond this campaign.
