Arsenal are planning to consider Arsene Wenger’s future this summer, and Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers has been touted as a potential successor.

Arsene Wenger of Arsenal looks on during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on December 2, 2017 in London, England.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Arsenal plan to review Arsene Wenger’s future at the end of the season, and one of the names that has been touted as a potential candidate should the Gunners decide to make a change is Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

Wenger may be the greatest manager in the club’s history, but it almost feels as if the size of the group of those who want the Frenchman to leave his post is growing with almost every game – especially after Sunday’s abject performance in the Carabao Cup final.

The Mirror reports that Wenger hopes to see the final year of his contract out at the Emirates, but the club are planning to review his position this summer – and it appears that a list of names has already been drawn up should they decide to get rid of Wenger.

According to the Mirror’s report, Leonardo Jardim, Joachim Low and Mikel Arteta are joined by Rodgers on the list of potential names to consider should Wenger depart at the end of the campaign.

Fans not happy

While you would imagine that a large portion of fans would be pleased that there is now plenty of doubt surrounding Wenger’s position, it appears that they are just as uninspired about the prospect of Rodgers coming in from Parkhead.

Rodgers’ move to Celtic seemed to be something of a gamble from the 45-year-old as he looked to rebuild his career following the disappointing end to his tenure with Liverpool – which had, to be fair to Rodgers, almost included a Premier League title at one stage.

And he has enjoyed plenty of success with the Hoops, leading them to the domestic Treble last season – where they did not lose a game – while also guiding them to the Champions League group-stages two years in a row.

It has been a slightly more underwhelming campaign this time around, with the Bhoys recently suffering a disappointing exit from the Europa League – a competition that Arsenal fans would probably rather have little to do with – and losing their unbeaten run in domestic games.

And despite the high points from his spell with Liverpool and his time at Celtic, it appears that the Arsenal fans are desperately hoping that Rodgers is not the man chosen to follow Wenger – though it must also be mentioned that few are suggesting that they would prefer Wenger to stay either.

Here is the best of the reaction…
