Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata missed out on playing in Brendan Rodgers’ side’s Champions League qualifying against AEK Athens.
According to a report in the Scottish Sun, Celtic’s senior players are seething with Dedryck Boyata.
Boyata’s agent has criticised Celtic, after the Bhoys blocked the defender from moving on this summer.
Boyata initially claimed he was unfit to play in Celtic’s Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens, but Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed that the centre-back had no injury after the contest.
Celtic had been beaten 2-1 in Greece and knocked out of the Champions League, with Boyata’s absence clearly felt.
Celtic had to line up with Jozo Simunovic and Jack Hendry as their defensive pairing in Greece, and the duo looked unsteady throughout.
Boyata could have helped Celtic progress, but he made himself unavailable for selection, and his teammates at Parkhead are said to be raging.
A large section of Celtic’s players reportedly feel badly let down by Boyata, who had developed into a key man for them under Rodgers.
The Sun suggest Boyata is now at risk of being ostracised by the Celtic team, if he does return to training.
Whether Boyata will now leave Glasgow this summer remains to be seen, but if he does return to Celtic it seems he will have some bridges to build with his manager, supporter and some of his teammates.
