Report: Celtic’s Jack Hendry wanted by Motherwell and Kilmarnock

Celtic could reportedly end up offloading Jack Hendry to one of their Scottish Premiership rivals.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Celtic defender Jack Hendry is being chased by both Kilmarnock and Motherwell – but a move to one of their Scottish Premiership rivals could pose a problem for the Hoops.

Hendry has endured a tough time since arriving at Parkhead during Brendan Rodgers’ tenure. He struggled to win his critics over when he did feature for the Bhoys, and he is yet to play for the club since Neil Lennon took charge for a second time earlier this year.

The Daily Record reports that a potential move to Hull City fell through as Celtic looked to secure a bigger fee for the centre-back, and it is two of the divisional rivals who may be offering Hendry the best chance to secure a move away before the transfer window closes.

The Record suggests that both Killie and Well want the 24-year-old – who is also reportedly attracting attention in Germany – but they would both still need Celtic to pay the majority of his wages if he was to leave the champions this summer.

A move away from Celtic would appear to suit all parties. Hendry looks to have no future with the club, particularly while Lennon remains in charge, and it is probably not beneficial to have him wasting away on the periphery of the squad after the club paid £1.5 million to sign him – which the Daily Record reports was a record fee for former side Dundee.

Having said that, they would arguably be better off letting him leave on loan if they do not receive any substantial offers as the transfer deadline nears.

If Hendry gets the chance to impress elsewhere, Celtic may be able to demand a lot more money if they look to sell him permanently in a future window than they can if they try and sell him this summer.

A permanent exit would look to be the ideal solution at this stage. But Celtic should be prepared to consider other options if the only offers on the table leave the Hoops taking a major financial hit on the defender.
