Could Celtic convince Henry Onyekuru to ignore Sevilla’s enticing proposal?
Celtic’s hopes of landing Nigerian sensation Henry Onyekuru may have just been hit with Estadio Deportivo claiming that Europa League winners Sevilla are also interested in a summer move.
The 19-year-old has exploded onto the scene with Eupen in the Belgian league this season, netting 11 goals in 24 domestic fixtures to earn the admiration of a number of major clubs across the continent.
The Scottish Sun reported that Celtic had a bid of £1 million rejected in January with his current club demanding a much higher fee, although speculation has suggested that Onyekuru would reject proposals from elsewhere to link up with Brendan Rodgers’ side come the end of the season.
However, his desire to make the move to Glasgow might still come under question with Estadio Deportivo claiming that Sevilla’s sporting director Monchi, a man renowned for his ability to spot a bargain, has identified Onyekuru as a summer priority.
The publication reports that the Andalusian giants, who have won the Europa League five times in the last 12 years, are willing to meet Eupen’s valuation in the summer.
Furthermore, Sevilla continue to progress apace under Copa America winning coach Jorge Sampaoli and appear to have laid the foundations to become bonafide Champions League regulars.
And that’s without mentioning the fact that a number of the world’s finest players, from Dani Alves to Sergio Ramos (below), Ivan Rakitic and Ever Banega, earned a move to a top European club by fulfilling their potential at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
