Celtic defender Efe Ambrose is reported to have a chance to leave the club by joining English Championship club Wolves.

Reports in Ambrose’s homeland Nigeria from OwnGoalNigeria.com claim Ambrose has been invited to trial with Wolves.

Ambrose is still under contract with Celtic but this deal expires in the summer, and from January he will be free to negotiate with other clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement.

Celtic could seek to get him off their books sooner and net a small fee for his services in the upcoming transfer window.

Ambrose has been sidelined by new manager Brendan Rodgers since August, who has replaced the 28-year-old with veteran defender Kolo Toure.

He appears to have no future at the club after just making two early season appearances, and was not included in the club’s Champions League squad.

The centre-back has been at Celtic since 2012 and has made more than 160 appearances for the club, winning three league titles.

With more than 50 caps for Nigeria to his name, Ambrose will want his next move to keep his international fortunes alive, but could find the Championship tough at Wolves having not played for several months, and would not be guaranteed a regular starting spot.

Former Celtic boss Paul Lambert was recently appointed as Wolves manager.
