Boyata’s Celtic contract expires in June.
The Celtic defender, Dedryck Boyata, has been left sweating over a proposed move to Hertha Berlin after the German side announced their manager, Pal Dardai, will leave them at the end of the campaign, according to The Scottish Sun.
Boyata is reported to have held talks with the Hertha sporting director, Michael Preetz, after Belgium’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Russia last month, and subsequently accepted a £40,000-a-week contract due to commence next season.
But the newspaper claims the 28-year-old – whose Celtic deal expires this summer, allowing him to leave without the Bhoys’ blessing – must now hope Dardai’s successor will ‘green light’ his transfer.
Dardai has led the Old Lady since 2015 after beginning his coaching career in the club’s youth ranks – where the Hungarian will return next season.
A number of sides have been credited with an interest in Boyata over the past few months, and it is therefore unlikely that he will remain at Celtic Park whether or not his move to Hertha goes through.
Celtic are also on the hunt for a new manager, having placed Neil Lennon in temporary charge following Brendan Rodgers’ departure to Leicester City.
