Celtic’s Cristian Gamboa looks set to move on imminently.
According to The Scottish Sun, Deportivo Alajuelense have offered a pre-contract agreement to Celtic defender Cristian Gamboa in an attempt to lure him back to Costa Rica.
Celtic will be undergoing a major rebuild this summer, and experienced players running down their contracts are likely to go, including right back Gamboa.
Gamboa, 29, was snapped up by Brendan Rodgers in 2016 having struggled to make an impact at West Bromwich Albion, despite impressing at the 2014 World Cup with Costa Rica.
A diminutive right back with real pace, Gamboa was signed as competition for Mikael Lustig, but has made just 25 appearances for the club in almost three years at Parkhead.
Gamboa’s contract ends this summer, and it’s long been thought that he would move on, which now seems even more likely as The Scottish Sun claim Deportivo Alajuelense have offered him a pre-contract agreement.
That would see Gamboa move back to his native Costa Rica, for the first time since leaving Municipal Liberia for Fredrikstad of Norway in 2010.
Gamboa cost Celtic £1million three years ago (Herald), but is now set to leave for absolutely nothing, whether it’s back to Costa Rica or elsewhere, with Celtic unlikely to make a strong effort to keep hold of him.
