Report: Celtic’s Callum McGregor wanted by Watford and Bournemouth

Celtic may face a fight to keep hold of Callum McGregor, with two Premier League sides both keen on a deal.

According to a report from The Sun, Celtic may face a battle to keep hold of Callum McGregor during the summer with both Bournemouth and Watford keen on luring him to the Premier League.

McGregor has arguably enjoyed his best season for the Hoops so far, having now established himself as a hugely important member of Brendan Rodgers’ attacking midfield options. In recent times, he has kept the likes of Scott Sinclair and Patrick Roberts out of the starting lineups with his performances.

The 24-year-old has already achieved his best goals tally in a season for the Bhoys, with his goal in the 5-0 drubbing of Rangers proving to be his 11th in all competitions. It is the first time since his loan spell with Notts County that he has reached double figures.

However, perhaps there is a chance that he may not be at Parkhead for much longer. The Sun reports that the Cherries and the Hornets are both eyeing a move for McGregor, who is rated at £10 million and is reportedly interested in considering a potential move back to England at some stage – though it is not clear whether that interest is tempting to consider a move away as early as this summer.

It appears that Bournemouth could be the team to really give Rodgers plenty to think about over the coming months. The Sun reported in April that they were preparing a £20 million move for Kieran Tierney, while the same publication suggested in March that Scott Sinclair was on Eddie Howe’s radar.

It will be interesting to see whether McGregor has any interest in joining either Bournemouth or Watford – whose scout is former Celtic striker Tommy Johnson – this summer. Both clubs are assured of top flight football again next year and could actually end the campaign in the top-half of the table.
