Adnan Januzaj needs a fresh start after a difficult time at Manchester United – and where better than Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic to revive his career?

The bookmakers saw it coming. There had been rumblings that Celtic were interested in Adnan Janazaj for a number of days and, according to the Press and Journal, that is indeed the case.

The report claims that the Scottish champions are mulling over a bid for the Belgian after he fell out of favour at Manchester United under first Louis van Gaal and then predecessor Jose Mourinho.

Arguably the only bright spark of David Moyes’ disastrous eight-month reign at Old Trafford, Januzaj inherited the famous number 11 shirt from club legend Ryan Giggs the following summer but has failed to kick on after that superb 2013/14 breakthrough season.

He featured in only six Bundesliga games on loan at Borussia Dortmund in 2015/16 before failing to net even a single league goal during a season-long spell at Sunderland as they finished bottom of the table.

However, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has a habit of helping players revive stuttering careers. Scott Sinclair moved to Glasgow last summer after failing to make an impression during spells at Manchester City and Aston Villa but won the domestic treble with Celtic, scoring 25 goals along the way.

And Rodgers would be hoping he would have a similar effect on 22-year-old Januzaj. United counterpart Jose Mourinho obviously believes he could with the report adding that he will insist on a buyback clause in Januzaj’s contract – just like he did when selling Memphis Depay to Lyon in January.

However, with PSG, Monaco and Roma also linked, Celtic have a challenge on their hands.
