Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers knows what Liverpool winger Ryan Kent is capable of, and is keen to bring him to Parkhead for a year.
Liverpool’s Ryan Kent is being targeted by Celtic
A report from The Sun on Sunday (print edition; June 11th 2017; pg. 59) has suggested that Celtic are keen to sign Liverpool winger Ryan Kent on loan next season.
According to The Sun on Sunday, former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to turn to his old club in an attempt to bolster his wide options this summer as they are concerned that there could be a price issue holding up Patrick Roberts’ potential move from Manchester City.
Kent was pushing through the ranks when Rodgers was in charge at Anfield
However, The Sun on Sunday adds that Liverpool will need persuading before they sanction the 20-year-old’s exit for the season as they are considering using him themselves during the upcoming campaign following his promising spell with Barnsley.
Kent – who was still awaiting his first-team debut for the Merseyside outfit when Rodgers departed, but had been making a name for himself in the youth side as well as out on loan – looked extremely bright and lively during his time at Oakwell, scoring three times in the Championship.
Patrick Roberts’ future could be crucial to deciding whether Celtic make a move
Given that The Sun on Sunday (print edition; June 11th 2017; pg. 59) hints that Celtic’s desire to pursue Kent on a season-long loan largely depends on where Roberts’ future lies, it would hardly be a surprise if the Hoops fans would rather that the latter is the one to arrive this summer as he has proven himself in emphatic fashion in the Scottish Premiership.
But Kent would certainly be an excellent acquisition for Celtic if they could convince Liverpool to give a deal the green light, as he appears to have the potential to help fill the void that Roberts may leave behind if he does not return.
