Scottish Premiership champions Celtic could sign a new goalkeeper with Fraser Forster only on loan from Premier League Southampton.

Celtic are eyeing a potential £6 million deal for AEK Athens goalkeeper Vassilis Barkas, according to Greek publication Sportime.
The Hoops currently have Fraser Forster between the sticks and the Southampton loanee is showing signs of rediscovering the sort of form that made him such a fans’ favourite in his first spell at Parkhead, making a remarkable reflex save in Thursday’s dramatic 2-1 Europa League victory against Lazio.
But it remains to be seen whether Forster will make his loan move permanent and, according to reports on the continent, Celtic are already scouring the market for alternatives.
The Dutch-born Barkas, who has 10 caps for the Greek national team, has been AEK’s number one for three seasons and helped the capital club win the Super Lig title for the first time in 24 years in 2018.
According to Sportime, Barkas’ excellent displays have caught the eye of Celtic with AEK potentially willing to listen to offers of around £6 million.

Barkas was expected to leave AEK this summer but a move to Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier failed to materialise, according to Mercato 365.
But with Forster’s long-term future uncertain and with Craig Gordon edging towards the end of his career, not to mention Scott Bain’s poor form at the start of the season, Celtic could be tempted to meet AEK’s price tag.
