Celtic’s hopes of re-signing Patrick Roberts have taken a hit, after French side Nice held talks with the former Parkhead loan star, the Scottish Sun reports.

Roberts shone during his 18 months at Celtic, and Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers has made no secret of his desire to bring the 20-year-old back to Glasgow this summer.

A potential club-record permanent move had even been discussed, although it appears the Scottish champions have a fight on their hands to make it happen.

It is claimed that Nice, who have qualified for next season’s Champions League, have discussed a loan deal for Roberts, while Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town are also said to be keen.

And according to the Scottish Sun, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will now decide on whether or not to keep the former Fulham player in and around his first-team squad.

Reports suggest Celtic will complete the signing of Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes in the coming days, although the 29-year-old’s £1.3 million move is not expected to end the Bhoys Roberts’ pursuit.
