Celtic are waiting for Mikael Lustig’s decision on his future.

According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic defender Mikael Lustig will decide his future once his international commitments with Sweden are over.

The Bhoys will see a number of players leave when their contracts expire this summer, and right back Lustig may well be one of them.

Lustig, 32, joined Celtic from Rosenborg way back in 2012, and now has more than 200 appearances for the club as well as eight league titles, four Scottish Cups and four Scottish League Cups.

His contract expires at the end of the month though, and it’s stated that Celtic will hear his decision after he plays for Sweden against Spain on Monday night.

Boss Neil Lennon – who signed Lustig in the first place – is hoping to secure a deal, but with AIK, Malmo and other European clubs keen, Celtic face a nervy wait.

Lustig hasn’t been the most popular Celtic player of recent times, with fans feeling that his performances are deteriorating as he approaches the age of 33.

However, the Swede can still play an important role. If he leaves, then Anthony Ralston may be the only right back at the club. Keeping Lustig for his experience could be vital, especially with the Daily Mail reporting that Celtic are leading the race for Ipswich Town’s Dylan Crowe.

The 18-year-old wouldn’t be ready to start immediately, but having Lustig in place – even if only for a year or two – before promoting Crowe could be a masterstroke, once he has learned from the Celtic veteran.
