Celtic are reportedly bracing themselves for a bid from Liverpool for striker Moussa Dembele.

According to The Sun, Celtic believe a bid from Liverpool for striker Moussa Dembele is only a matter of time – and Manchester City fear they’re lagging behind the Reds in the race for his signature.

Dembele, 20, chose to leave Championship side Fulham when his contract expired at the end of last season, and after scoring 17 times last season, a number of clubs wanted to land the young Frenchman.

However, it was Celtic who clinched his signature, paying just £500,000 in compensation (Get West London), and their faith in the striker has been repaid, as he’s scored 17 goals in just 33 games this season.

With a hat-trick against Rangers in his first Old Firm derby and a brace against Manchester City in the Champions League, Dembele has hit the headlines this season – but Celtic now fear they will lose him.

The Sun report that Celtic believe a bid from Liverpool for their prized asset is ‘only a matter of time’, because Jurgen Klopp and the Reds have regularly watched Dembele over the course of the season.

Liverpool need to add more striking depth in January, and a move for Dembele wouldn’t be a surprise – though they aren’t the only Premier League team registering an interest in him.

It’s claimed that Manchester City and manager Pep Guardiola are huge fans of Dembele, but they fear that Liverpool have now stolen a march on them in the race to sign the striker.

Both sides have aspirations of winning the Premier League title this season, and may decided that Dembele – believed to be valued at around £20million – can help score the goals to fire them to top spot, even if he may be one for the future.

Strong, fast and full of potential, Dembele fits the bill perfectly for Klopp’s Liverpool side, but Manchester City may be hoping that their relationship with Celtic, which has seen them loan Jason Denayer, John Guidetti and Patrick Roberts to the Bhoys in recent years, can get them back in pole position for Dembele.
