Celtic are set to miss out on Huddersfield Town defender Tommy Smith.

According to the Daily Record, Celtic are set to miss out on Huddersfield Town defender Tommy Smith, as he’s set to join Stoke City instead.
The Bhoys desperately need a couple of right backs, and they have subsequently been linked with a whole host of them ahead of the new league season.
Smith has emerged as one of Neil Lennon’s top targets, and many thought he was Glasgow-bound when he was seen leaving Huddersfield’s training base in Austria on Wednesday.
However, he isn’t joining Celtic, and he was actually travelling to put the finishing touches on a move to Championship rivals Stoke City, frustrating the Bhoys.
Lennon allegedly wanted to secure a £2.5million deal, but that won’t be happening now, barring a late turn of events in Celtic’s favour.
Smith, 27, has racked up 200 appearances for Huddersfield, serving as a solid and dependable right back who can also contribute in the final third.

Some may feel that a move to Stoke is something of a shock when Celtic – who can offer European football and a title challenge –but Smith has seemingly decided that he wants to stay in England.
That’s a major blow for Celtic, who need to find two right backs in the coming weeks, with Smith now seemingly crossed off the list.
