Celtic could now miss out on John McGinn to Aston Villa.
According to The Scottish Sun, Hibernian midfielder John McGinn is heading for talks with Aston Villa after they swooped in to try and beat Celtic to his signature.
McGinn, 23, has become one of the top talents in Scotland since joining Hibs from St Mirren in 2015, racking up 18 goals in 136 games for the Edinburgh side.
A Scotland international with nine caps to his name, midfielder McGinn has starred at Easter Road – but he looks to be on his way out given that his contract expires next summer.
Celtic have looked to take advantage of that, making three bids without much success, with their last failed offer totalling £2million according to Sky Sports – and the Bhoys may now miss out.
The Scottish Sun report that Aston Villa have now swooped in with a move for McGinn, and the midfielder appears to be heading south in order to hold talks with Villa boss Steve Bruce.
It’s claimed that Bruce is a big fan of McGinn and had him watched on Sunday as Hibs 3-0 win over Motherwell, with Villa now looking to beat Thursday’s deadline with a move for the Scot.
Hibs allegedly value McGinn at £4million, and it remains to be seen just how much Villa are prepared to pay, but claims that he will hold talks with Bruce suggest that Villa are paying considerably more than Celtic.
That leaves the Bhoys in a tricky situation and potentially on the verge of losing their top target unless they can get a deal done before Villa, with Celtic no doubt hoping that McGinn is still a Hibs player once the English window ends on Thursday.
