Report: Celtic target Angus Gunn to choose Scotland international future

Angus Gunn is reportedly ready to represent Scotland.

According to The Scottish Sun, Norwich City loanee Angus Gunn is ready to commit his international future to Scotland rather than England.

Gunn, 22, has been impressing on loan with hometown club Norwich this season, having been sent to Carrow Road by parent club Manchester City last summer.

Born in Norwich yet the son of former Scotland international Bryan Gunn, Angus is eligible to represent both nations, and was even called into the England senior squad back in November.

However, it’s now believed that Gunn could turn his back on the Three Lions in order to represent Scotland just like his father, with new Scotland boss Alex McLeish keen to secure his services.

A boost for Brendan Rodgers?

Gunn is set to return to Manchester City at the end of the season, but with little to no chance of him supplanting Ederson as Pep Guardiola’s first-choice stopper, he may look to move on this summer.

Recent reports from The Sun have claimed that Celtic want to land Gunn this summer, as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to land a long-term successor to Craig Gordon between the sticks.

Gunn’s potential commitment to Scotland may just give the Bhoys a major boost in their pursuit of Gunn, as playing north of the border may put him right on McLeish’s radar.

Add in that a host of Celtic players – such as Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Jack Hendry, Stuart Armstrong, Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths – have earned Scotland call-ups off the back of their development under Rodgers, and Celtic may prove to be the perfect home for Gunn if he pursues a Scotland career.
