Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers had wanted to bring Srdjan Plavsic to Glasgow.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Celtic have suffered a transfer blow – with Srdjan Plavsic deciding to join Sparta Prague.
Celtic had been set to make a move for Plavsic, with Lee Congerton sent to scout the winger at the European under-21 Championships.
Plavsic is representing Serbia at the tournament, and Celtic had a keen eye on him.
However, the 21-year-old has decided that a move to Sparta Prague is his best option.
It means that Celtic will now have to look elsewhere, as Brendan Rodgers looks to improve his squad.
Celtic have snapped up Jonny Hayes this summer, but Rodgers is believed to be keen to strengthen his forward line even further.
Plavsic was one of his initial targets, as he formulated his transfer plans for next season with the Bhoys, but Celtic have failed with their bid to attract the talented youngster.
Plavsic made 39 appearances for his current club, Red Star Belgrade, last term – scoring eight goals and claiming five assists.
Should Celtic step up their chase elsewhere?
With Rodgers’ search for a new winger set to continue, following Plavsic’s move elsewhere, Celtic should now step up their chase for Patrick Roberts from Manchester City.
Celtic were reportedly close to completing a deal for Roberts earlier in the transfer window (Daily Mirror), but they have been unable to bring the winger to Glasgow yet.
However, with Celtic failing in their bids to sign alternatives, Rodgers should now return to putting his full attention into bringing Roberts back to Parkhead.
