Celtic have reportedly been left stunned by Rijeka’s valuation of Marko Leskovic.
According to The Scottish Sun, Croatian side Rijeka have told Celtic that they want a fee of £4m for defender Marko Leskovic – some way off Celtic’s proposed deal worth £1.5m.
The Bhoys were once again beaten in the Europa League on Thursday night, as Dutch giants Ajax grabbed a 2-1 victory with a late goal from Vaclav Cerny.
That means that Celtic have now drawn twice and lost three times in the Europa League this season, and they have already been eliminated – just months after Bhoys fans were left disappointed at missing out on a place in the Champions League.
The pressure is mounting on manager Ronny Deila, and having lost Jason Denayer and Virgil van Dijk, defensive reinforcements are needed in January, even after landing Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic over the summer.
In fact, it could be another Croatian joining Simunovic at Celtic Park, with The Scottish Sun reporting that the Bhoys are keen to sign Rijeka star Marko Leskovic.
However, it’s stated that Celtic have been left stunned by Rijeka’s £4m asking price for the 24-year-old centre back, given that the Bhoys valued him at around £1.5m.
It remains to be seen whether Celtic will now continue to pursue Leskovic, given that they won’t have extra funds from European games to count on after Thursday’s defeat to Ajax.
