Celtic and West Bromwich Albion are among the clubs interested in signing James McCarthy from Crystal Palace in the January transfer window, according to 90min.

It has been reported that Celtic are ready to open talks with the 30-year-old central midfielder, who supported the Hoops as a kid.

However, according to the report, the defending Scottish Premiership champions are ‘struggling to come up with a suitable offer’ that would tempt the Republic of Ireland international to move to Celtic Park.

Newcastle United, Burnley and Sheffield United are also interested in McCarthy, according to the report.

Celtic or West Bromwich Albion?

Between Celtic and West Brom, it would really be a tough choice for McCarthy.

While the central midfielder would relish playing for the club he supported as a boy, the Scottish Premiership is not anywhere near the level of the Premier League, and Celtic are unlikely to be able to pay him a lot in salary.

True, West Brom are a Premier League club, but the Baggies are in real danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season, and that might not be very tempting for McCarthy.
