Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion are both interested in handing Celtic star Leigh Griffiths the chance to come to the Premier League.
Celtic’s Leigh Griffiths is being targeted by Newcastle and West Brom
A report in the Daily Record has suggested that Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is being targeted by both Newcastle and West Brom this summer as they both look to bolster their goalscoring ranks.
Griffiths has arguably been one of the most impressive performers in the Scottish Premiership over the last few years, scoring 64 goals in 94 top flight games for the Hoops since arriving in 2014.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis
Perhaps unsurprisingly, his form has attracted plenty of attention with the Daily Record suggesting that both Newcastle and West Brom are keen to hand the 26-year-old the chance to play in the Premier League.
Despite their mostly positive season that finished with a top-half finish, the Baggies struggled for goals with Salomon Rondon finishing as the side’s top goalscorer with just eight strikes to his name.
Tony Pulis only had Hal Robson-Kanu to turn to as an alternative to Rondon up front, so it is hardly surprising that a new striker is on their wishlist.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez
Meanwhile, Newcastle are preparing for their return to the top flight following their Championship title-win this past season, and Benitez appears to think that Griffiths could be the man who could provide Dwight Gayle with the kind of support he will need at the highest level.
However, it appears that Griffiths – who really put himself on the map amongst the English fans with his stunning brace of free-kicks for Scotland in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier – will not come cheap, with the Record reporting that Celtic will want around £6 million before they even considering sanctioning a switch.
