Celtic could land Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke for a fraction of the fee that Liverpool could have to pay.
Dominic Solanke
A report in the Daily Record has suggested that Celtic remain interested in Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke and may have moved up the pecking order in the race to sign him as Liverpool’s desire to land the youngster has cooled.
The Sun reported back in February that the Hoops were interested in signing the 19-year-old – whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer – but were set to miss out to the Reds due to the financial offer that the Merseyside outfit were able to make.
However, the Record is now suggesting that a deal with Celtic is now very much a possibility with Jurgen Klopp instead deciding to prioritise other targets, potentially leaving the door open for the Bhoys to make up some ground in the running for his signature.
The Record adds that Solanke would be able to move to Parkhead for a fraction of the fee that Liverpool would have had to pay for the same reason that Moussa Dembele was able to move to the Scottish Premiership for what now appears to be one of the best bargains the club have ever secured.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is seemingly prioritising other targets
According to the Record, while Liverpool may have to pay £8 million for Solanke – who is yet to make his Premier League debut for the Blues – Celtic may get away with paying just £400,000.
And given his potential and what Brendan Rodgers has done for some of the young players within the current Hoops squad, it would hardly be a surprise if Celtic were celebrating securing another bargain if they were able to win the race for his signature, which now looks possible with Liverpool stalling.
