Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side have kept an eye on Sunderland attacker Fabio Borini throughout the transfer window so far.

According to a report in the Sunderland Echo, Celtic are still monitoring Fabio Borini – but the Italian is closing in on a departure from Sunderland to join Lazio.

The Italian club have emerged as the front runners to snap up Borini this summer, but the deal is not yet complete.

Lazio want to take Borini on loan, with a view to making the transfer permanent next season.

However, Sunderland are keen to collect money for Borini this summer, and value the attacker at around £6 million.

Celtic are still said to be interested in signing Borini, and they are monitoring his availability.

Celtic do not appear ready to make a bid for Borini yet, but could do so if his transfer to Lazio falls through.

Brendan Rodgers has already worked with Borini at Liverpool, earlier in their respective careers, and feels that Italian could enhance his attacking options in Glasgow.

Celtic have made one signing so far this summer, bringing in Jonny Hayes from Aberdeen.
