According to Fotboll Skanalen, Celtic are still in the race to sign Union Berlin striker Sebastian Andersson this summer.
It’s stated that Brighton and Hove Albion, Valencia and Villarreal are all keen on Andersson, but Celtic are right there with them.
A fee of SEK 60 million – around £5million – would be needed to sign Andersson. That may well fit into Celtic’s budget, especially if Odsonne Edouard leaves.
Bild reported earlier this season that the Bhoys were scouting Andersson ahead of a possible move. Since then, he has starred for Union.
The Swede has racked up 12 goals in 29 Bundesliga games, proving to be an unbelievable aerial threat, with seven of those goals coming with his head.
Maybe this is exactly why Celtic want him. Edouard has been a goalscoring sensation, but Andersson offers something different in terms of an aerial threat.
The 28-year-old brings something that Celtic just don’t have right now; a target man who can dominate in the air and give defences something to think about late on.
Andersson isn’t the usual profile of a Celtic signing at 28, but there is nobody quite like him at Celtic right now – and adding a pure target man in the mould of Chris Sutton and Jan Venegoor of Hesselink should appeal to Lennon.
