Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon is tempted by the idea of re-joining Hearts this summer despite the fact his former club have recently been relegated from the Scottish Premiership, according to Edinburgh Live.

There were always going to be winners and losers when it was announced that the 2019/20 season could not be completed north of the border.

And while Celtic were handed their ninth successive league title, Hearts fans everywhere were left reeling after being dumped into the Championship despite playing just 30 of their 38 league fixtures.

Nonetheless, the prospect of second tier football has not made Gordon think twice about making a triumphant return to Tynecastle.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper is due to become a free agent at the end of this month. And though he does have a new contract offer on the table from Celtic, his six-year spell with the Hoops appears to be coming to an end.

Gordon did not start a league game all season under Neil Lennon. And, with only a few seasons left before he hangs up his gloves, who can blame the veteran shot-stopper for prioritising regular first-team football?

Gordon started his career at Hearts, making his debut all the way back in the 2002/03 season before joining Sunderland in a deal which, at the time, made him the most expensive goalkeeper in British history.

A return to where it all began might be too good to turn down.
