Celtic are reportedly pursuing Borussia Dortmund’s Jeremy Toljan.

According to The Daily Record, Celtic spent last night locked in talks with Borussia Dortmund about signing defender Jeremy Toljan – but no move has been agreed just yet.

The Bhoys have so far focused on attacking additions this month, landing Oliver Burke, Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo to bolster Brendan Rodgers’ options in the final third.

Ukrainian winger Maryan Shved is also set to arrive, but another right back is needed before tomorrow’s deadline given that Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa are both out of contract this summer.

Rodgers may seek a loan deal with a view to a purchase down the line, and the Daily Record report that Celtic spent last night talking to Borussia Dortmund about a deal for Toljan.

However, no deal has yet been agreed, meaning Celtic may face a race against time to land the German full back before the window slams shut.

Toljan, 24, was one of German football’s most promising full backs when he left Hoffenheim for Dortmund in 2017, but he hasn’t made a single first-team appearance under Lucien Favre this season.

He now looks set to leave the Champions League side and Bundesliga leaders in search of first-team football elsewhere, with Celtic at the front of the queue.

A full back with blistering pace, Toljan could be a huge addition to this Celtic side, especially as he clearly still has untapped potential, which Rodgers will be looking to unlock if the Bhoys can wrap up a deal.
