According to The Athletic, Celtic are closing in on the signing of former Fulham midfielder Matt O’Riley for £1.5m.
O’Riley has been on fire for MK Dons this term, netting seven goals and grabbing five assists, and it seems as though he’s ready to live up to his massive potential.
Indeed, O’Riley was tipped for big things as a teenager, and now he going to get the chance to strut his stuff at Celtic, and if all goes well for the Glasgow outfit, O’Riley could find himself playing Champions League football next term.
The 6 ft 2 midfielder was tipped to be a first-teamer when he was just 17, and he was watched by both Manchester United and Arsenal back in 2017.
However, despite being monitored by Borussia Dortmund last year, O’Riley ended up playing League One football with MK Dons, but it sounds as though his stay in Milton Keynes will be brief.
O’Riley never quite made the grade at Fulham, but now that he’s had a decent run of games at the senior level, he’s progressing nicely.
This will be something of a coup for The Bhoys. A £1.5m fee isn’t very much for a 21-year-old with this level of ability, while they’ve beaten the likes of Blackburn and Swansea to his signature.
Celtic will be a fantastic move for O’Riley, and the midfielder will be hoping to follow in his former Fulham teammate Mousa Dembele’s footsteps by becoming a bona fide star at Parkhead.
