Celtic have reportedly told Leicester City that Callum McGregor is not for sale this summer.
According to a report from the Daily Record, Celtic have rejected Leicester’s approach for Callum McGregor, and Peter Lawwell has told Brendan Rodgers that any bid for the midfielder would be a waste of time.
McGregor is on Rodgers’ radar as the former Hoops boss looks to make an impact during his first summer at the King Power Stadium following his Parkhead departure earlier in the year.
McGregor was one player who certainly benefited from working under Rodgers. His potential was always evident, but few would have expected the 26-year-old to become such a key player in the current side.
Unsurprisingly, he is attracting attention this summer. But the Daily Record has reported that the Foxes’ enquiry regarding McGregor has been snubbed, and Celtic have no plans to entertain any offer for the Scotland international.
Celtic making a statement
Celtic fans have unfortunately had to get used to seeing plenty of their key players, and of course Rodgers himself, move on to the Premier League. So it would be a fantastic statement to keep McGregor beyond this window.
Getting a player as important as McGregor to stick around would highlight that much of the squad believe that there is more work to do. And it may also help attract some of their transfer targets, as they know that they would be arriving to play alongside the best players at the club rather than replace them.
