According to reports from La Prensa in Honduras, Celtic are in the race to sign Olimpia striker Jorge Benguche when the transfer window opens.
It’s claimed that Celtic aren’t alone in the race for Benguche. Portuguese side Belenenses and Cagliari of Serie A are also thought to be interested.
Benguche, 24, joined Olimpia from Juticalpa in 2016. He has a total of 33 goals for Olimpia, and scored twice on his Honduras debut against Puerto Rico.
A big and physical striker at 6ft 2in tall, Benguche could now be ready for a move to Europe, and his stature could be a great fit for Scottish football.
Celtic already have Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard, whilst Patryk Klimala was signed in January. Adding another striker to give Neil Lennon options would be ideal, especially if he sticks with his 3-5-2 setup.
Benguche would hardly be a replacement for Edouard should he go, but could be a target man for Lennon to bring on from the bench if Celtic are chasing goals.

A number of Honduran players have headed to Europe in recent times, with Maynor Figueroa, Hendry Thomas and Wilson Palacios leading the way in England.
Emilio Izaguirre headed to Celtic in 2010, and he could have played a role here. Benguche is Izaguirre’s international team mate with Honduras, and Izaguirre recently told El Diez that he was scouting players for Celtic.
Links to Benguche emerging just weeks later may be a case of putting two and two together, but it would certainly make sense as the Bhoys look for another striker.
