Celtic are reportedly determined to land Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna.

Scott McKenna of Scotland listens to the anthem during the International Friendly match between Hungary and Scotland at Groupama Arena on March 27, 2018 in Budapest, Hungary.

According to the Daily Mail, Celtic could return with a new bid for Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna by including Ryan Christie and Jonny Hayes in a move.

The Bhoys are in desperate need of reinforcements before next week’s transfer deadline, having endured something of a difficult summer so far.

After tying up loanees Scott Bain and Odsonne Edouard permanently, Celtic moved to sign veteran left back Emilio Izaguirre as cover for Kieran Tierney in a fairly low-key move.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring in new signings, and the Daily Mail note that an opening offer of £3.5million has been rejected for Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna.

However, Celtic are maintaining their interest in McKenna, and it’s claimed that they may return with a bid including two former Aberdeen players.

Playmaker Ryan Christie, who spent the last 18 months on loan at Aberdeen, and winger Jonny Hayes, who was a Pittodrie hero before his 2017 move to Celtic, could be included in the next bid.

Offering one or both could be hugely tempting for Aberdeen, though they will be putting up major resistance as they look to keep their star defender at Pittodrie beyond the transfer deadline.

With Dedryck Boyata’s future unclear, Jack Hendry struggling and Marvin Compper injured, another centre back is needed at Celtic – and 21-year-old talent McKenna is now the prime target.
