One-time German international Marvin Compper could leave the Bundesliga for Celtic in the New Year.

Brendan Rodgers will be drawing up a shortlist of potential defensive additions ahead of the January transfer window with a new centre-back his top priority, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
And German publication Kicker has now suggested that RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper is on Rodgers’ radar. The 32-year-old has find playing time hard to come by in the Bundesliga this season and it is understood that sporting director Ralf Rangnick will listen to offers in the January transfer window.

Celtic should not be concerned by Compper’s lack of minutes across 2017/18. The one-time German international, whose only cap came against England nine years ago, was a regular for Leipzig as they marked their debut Bundesliga campaign by finishing second behind Bayern Munich last season.
And the powerful centre-back has only lost his place thanks to the fantastic form of Dayot Upamecano, one of the top young defenders in world football who fits Leipzig’s model of looking toward the future.

Compper, even at 32, still has plenty to offer and would provide bucketloads of experience at centre-half for Scottish champions Celtic. He is unlikely to cost a bomb either with his contract at Leipzig only running until 2019.
And while Compper would perhaps only be a short-term addition he could be exactly what Celtic need as they aim to compete on European and domestic fronts after the new year.
