A report in the Daily Star has claimed that Manchester United had their chief scout in attendance for Celtic’s 2-0 win over Motherwell last weekend as the Red Devils run their eye over Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney.

According to the Star, United’s top scout Jim Lawlor watched the game, as did a representative from Premier League rivals Chelsea, as the pair join the list of clubs currently chasing Hoops striker Dembele.

While it was a modest game by the Frenchman’s recent standards, the scouts were still able to see the former Fulham man put the ball in the back of the net as he opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark from the penalty spot before James Forrest doubled the lead shortly before half-time.

Unfortunately for Tierney, the most notable piece of action involving him saw him on the receiving end of a horrible challenge from one of the Well forwards which left him requiring plenty of treatment on a badly cut knee.

Given the potential that both players are showing however, it seems highly unlikely that the win was the first or will be the last time that scouts from those clubs have a closer look at them.

Tierney has quickly established himself as a key man for the Hoops side both domestically and in Europe, and yet, he is still just a teenager.

Meanwhile, Dembele is swiftly closing in on the 40-goal mark for the season. He currently has 29 goals to his name this term, but has scored nine in his last four – having scored two hat-tricks before the goal against Motherwell and a brace in yesterday’s win over Hamilton – so a continuation of his current form would surely see him smash past 40.
