Celtic goalkeeper Logan Bailly has reportedly rejected a move to Raith Rovers.
Celtic’s Logan Bailly
According to STV, Celtic goalkeeper Logan Bailly has turned down the chance to join second tier side Raith Rovers on an emergency loan deal.
With Ronny Deila seeking a backup goalkeeper in the summer of 2015, he swooped to land Bailly from OH Leuven in his native Belgium, penning a three-year deal with the Bhoys.
Bailly made just five appearances last season as he struggled to supplant Craig Gordon, and his fortunes have only worsened under Brendan Rodgers this term, with no appearances at all to his name.
With Gordon and Dorus de Vries ahead of him in the pecking order, Bailly has become something of an outcast at Celtic Park, leading many to believe he will be leaving imminently – despite having more than a year left on his contract.
However, STV today report that Bailly had the chance to join Raith Rovers on an emergency loan deal, only to reject the move.
The Scottish Championship club were without three goalkeepers for Tuesday’s trip to take on Ayr, leaving midfielder Ryan Stevenson to go in goal after the SPFL denied their appeals to postpone the game.
Celtic’s Logan Bailly applauds
It seems that Raith did attempt to bring in a goalkeeper before the game though, with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers sanctioning an emergency loan deal for Bailly – only for the 31-year-old to reject the move at the last minute.
Quotes from club secretary Eric Drysdale suggested that Raith couldn’t get hold of Bailly to discuss the move, and whilst former Bhoys assistant John Collins was attempting to get the deal over the line, the goalkeeper wasn’t for budging.
Bailly now looks unlikely to play before the end of the season, and Celtic will surely be looking to move him on permanently during the upcoming transfer window.
