Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata is reportedly wanted by Anderlecht.

According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata is wanted by Anderlecht in his native Belgium – and he’s interested in a move this month.

Boyata, 26, joined the Bhoys from Manchester City after his compatriot Jason Denayer had returned to the Etihad Stadium following a loan deal with Celtic.

Boyata, a fellow centre back, hasn’t quite had the same success as Denayer did, as whilst he scored six times in 34 games last season, the Belgian has played just once this term.

With manager Brendan Rodgers going with Erik Sviatchenko, Jozo Simunovic and Kolo Toure as his leading centre backs, Boyata is well down the pecking order at Celtic Park, with his only appearance coming away at Kilmarnock in November.

Now, with the January transfer window open, Boyata could be available, and The Scottish Sun report that Anderlecht are keen on bringing him back to Belgium.

It’s claimed that Anderlecht – who are gearing up for a Europa League clash with Zenit Stt. Petersburg – are looking for defensive additions during this month’s transfer window, and Boyata has emerged as a top target.

The Celtic ace is believed to be interested in a move back to Belgium, where he may have a better chance of first-team football, with playing time no doubt at the heart of any move for Boyata.

Celtic are unlikely to put up too much of a fight to keep Boyata given his lack of football under Rodgers, and a parting of the ways this month may in fact be best for all parties.
