According to The Athletic, James McCarthy – who is wanted by Celtic and Newcastle – will leave Crystal Palace this summer.
The £50,000-a-week man’s contract at Selhurst Park expires in June, and he will be following Patrick van Aanholt out of south London.
This will surely be of interest to Celtic and Newcastle. TEAMtalk believe that both the Scottish giants and the Magpies are keen to sign Crystal Palace’s No.22.
TEAMtalk state that Celtic held talks with the 42-cap Republic of Ireland international back in January, and came close to finding an agreement.
He is also believed to be a huge Celtic fan.
In Newcastle’s case, TEAMtalk believe that they have followed McCarthy for a number of years, and are big admirers of the 30-year-old.

As far as free transfers go, there won’t be many better than this one on the market this summer.
McCarthy is a fine player, who surely would’ve enjoyed an even better career were it not for a number of niggling injury issues.
Most of those have come after his horrific leg break in January 2018 while playing for Everton, and incident which left ex-Newcastle man Salomon Rondon in tears.

Nowadays, he seems to be in good shape. However, he has only made eight Premier League starts due to the competition in Crystal Palace’s midfield.
With Ebere Eze, Luka Milivojevic, James McArthur, Jairo Riedewald and Jeffrey Schlupp already at Selhurst Park, it is time for McCarthy to experience a new chapter.
Only time will tell if that comes with Celtic or Newcastle.
