According to A Bola, Celtic and Benfica are now in advanced talks over the signing of Jota, in a deal believed to be worth €7.5m (£6.2m).

What’s the story?

Well, the 22-year-old has been a phenomenon at Celtic so far this season, as he enjoys his season-long loan from Benfica.

When Celtic sealed the deal back in August, the Bhoys announced that they had an option to buy Jota in the summer as part of the arrangement.

However, it seems as if Ange Postecoglou wants to get a permanent move sorted now, as Celtic engage in advanced talks with Benfica.

In our view, that should come as no surprise.

Jota has been immense this season, scoring eight goals while also providing six assists in 18 appearances.

Aged just 22, he would also represent a fantastic signing for the future, as well as someone who can make an immediate impact.

Jota is a bargain for Celtic

For just £6.2m, Celtic are getting a bargain in Jota.

The Portugal Under-21 international has plenty of potential he is yet to fulfil, which is a frightening prospect when you consider how good he already is.

Jota seems to be enjoying himself at Celtic Park, and when you consider who else Postecoglou has at his disposal, the future is bright for the Hoops.

Should Jota sign permanently, Celtic would have a mouthwatering frontline of Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada, Giorgos Giakoumakis and James Forrest to choose from.

If we were Rangers, we’d be worried.

After some wobbly moments in recent years, Celtic are back to doing some fine recruitment work under Postecoglou.
